Course Summary

As long as you are familiar with a gym environment you can sign up for our Level 3 Diploma Gym and Personal Training combined to start your career as a Personal Trainer.

The aim of this qualification is to give you the knowledge and understanding you need to work in a gym environment, as well as the skills and expertise to be able to coach people on a one-to-one basis.

On completion of this course, you’re able to progress onto other specialised courses at Level 3 and above this includes the Diploma in Exercise Referral, Level 3 Performance Massage, Level 3 Pilates, Level 4 Strength and Conditioning, and/or Level 4 Sports Massage. You may even want to expand your knowledge with one of our other Level 2 courses such as Health Related Exercise for Children, Circuit Training, Group Indoor Cycling, Kettlebells & Suspended Movement Training.

"Doing the Diploma meant I was able to get my career up and running, confident that I have the knowledge to train people safely"

How You're Taught

This course combines Level 2 Certificate Gym Instructor and Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training. In total the course runs for 15 days. Each day starts at 9 am and finishes at 5 pm and it is essential that you attend all of the days to achieve the Diploma.

Level 2 Gym

There is an element of self-study which you will be required to do before you attend the course. This includes some worksheets you will need to complete. We advise you to spend a minimum of two weeks on this part of the course. Your tutor will be available to offer support to you during this time.

The practical part of the course runs over 5 days. This is usually over two weekends, although we do sometimes offer midweek courses, usually over two days a week for two weeks.

Level 3 Personal Trainer

Like Level 2 there is an element of self-study and a workbook to complete before you attend your practical sessions. Your tutor is available to offer you support.

The practical part of the course runs over 9 days, usually over five weekends (not all consecutive). We do sometimes offer midweek courses, again over two days a week.

Over the 9 days, there are assessment elements which are incorporated into the course, rather than them all being at the end.

Assessment

Level 2

There are a number of different assessments at level 2. Over the 5 days, you'll complete and submit a learner assessment record which includes a session plan for a healthy client, an older client, and a younger client. You'll complete a worksheet and an online assessment workbook with questions and answers on a range of topics covered as part of the course. In terms of practical assessments, you'll be assessed on the course coaching each other through a range of activities.

On day 5 you'll then complete a multiple-choice exam in anatomy and physiology and you'll also deliver a  full gym-based exercise session using one our your class peers as your client.

Level 3

The first part of your assessment is the workbooks you are to complete as part of your self-study.

The assessment elements of this part of the course are incorporated into the practical sessions and include multiple-choice theory papers, worksheets, case studies, and practical assessments.
