How to Start Offering Nutrition Coaching to Your PT Clients
If you're already a personal trainer, adding nutrition coaching to your offering is one of the more natural ways to increase client results and your own income. Here's how to introduce it well.
Start with existing clients
-
Introduce nutrition guidance as a natural extension of the training relationship you already have, rather than a hard upsell
-
Use real client goals (weight management, performance, energy levels) as the entry point, rather than leading with the qualification itself
-
Be transparent about what you can and can't advise on. Clients respect honesty about scope more than vague overreach
How to package it
Many PTs offer nutrition guidance as part of a broader coaching package rather than charging separately, at least initially, it strengthens client results and retention. Others build a standalone nutrition add-on service once demand is established.
Know your scope, and say so
Being upfront that you provide general, evidence-based guidance, and that anyone with a medical condition should also speak to a registered dietitian or their GP, builds trust rather than undermining it.
Where it can lead
Some PTs find nutrition coaching becomes a significant part of their business over time, particularly for online or hybrid coaching models where nutrition guidance travels well beyond in-person sessions.
