Do You Need Experience Before Starting an Exercise Referral Course?

Do You Need Experience Before Starting an Exercise Referral Course?

Exercise referral has more specific entry requirements than most fitness specialisms. It's worth checking these carefully before booking, since it isn't a course for complete beginners.

What you need before enrolling

✔ An existing Level 2 or Level 3 fitness qualification mapped to a CIMSPA professional standard e.g. gym instructor, core group exercise instructor, personal trainer, Pilates matwork instructor, or strength and conditioning trainer

✔ A relevant anatomy and physiology unit completed within the last 3 years

✔ The ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups

What's recommended but not compulsory

It's recommended that learners have at least 6 months' experience planning and delivering exercise sessions before taking this qualification, so they get the most out of the course content.

What if your anatomy and physiology unit has lapsed?

If you don't hold a qualifying anatomy and physiology unit from within the last 3 years, Envisage can deliver this for an additional £150, either as remote home study or by joining the relevant session on one of their other courses.

Still not sure if you're eligible?

If you're unsure whether your existing qualification counts as equivalent, it's worth checking directly with the course provider before booking rather than assuming either way.
