YMCA Level 3 Award in Supporting Participation in Physical Activity: Menopause (Practitioner)
Learners will:
Understand the stages of menopause, the effects of declining hormones and the health risks.
Be able to programme and adapt exercise sessions and programmes to meet the needs of individuals at different stages of menopause (within the scope of practice).
Deliver exercise to meet the needs of individuals at different stages of menopause.
This qualification is underpinned by CIMSPA’s Women and Girls Population Specialism Professional Standard.
The Menopause can devastate people's lives, and the signs and symptoms can be so hard to live with, we must learn to support women through this often tough time in their lives.
How You're Taught
This particular qualification is heavily theory-based and is part online and part in-person (4 evenings only). Time will need to be put aside to complete a large number of home-study tasks, some of which need to be completed before you meet us in person.
Pre-course Tasks: Learning about the fundamentals of menopause (3-4 hours), Knowledge Questions (3-4 hours), Presentation (3-4 hours), Professional Discussion (20 mins).
In-person Delivery Day 1 and 2 (6pm-9pm): On these days you will learn about the effects of declining hormones on health and wellbeing for individuals transitioning through the menopause.
In-person Delivery Day 3 and 4: (6pm -9pm) On these days you will learn how to programme and adapt exercise to support management of menopause and menopause symptoms.
Post-course Tasks: More Knowledge Questions (3-4 hours), Another Presentation (3-4 hours), 2 More Professional Discussions (20 mins each), Case-Study Questions x 2 (2-3 hours each), Session Planning Documents (5-6 hours).

Progression
This qualification is classed as a population specialism and enable learners to work with a broader range of clients or perform additional roles within the workplace. Learners completing these qualifications can progress to a range of qualifications.
Entry Requirement
Learners must have completed a qualification endorsed against one of the following CIMSPA Occupational entry professional standards:
Group exercise instructor
Gym instructor
Personal trainer
Pilates-based matwork

The fee for this course is £525.
A £100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place on the course.
You can pay for this course yourself (self-funded) either in full or over a maximum of 6 interest-free monthly instalments (using an Envisage Payment Plan).

FAQs
What happens if I need to miss a day due to illness or a pre-booked event?
It is in your best interest to attend as much of your course as you can. However, if you do need to miss a day or two, don't worry, we will help you to catch-up. We will send you the work that you miss over email or you may even be able to pop in to our office so that we can go through the missing bits with you. All that we ask is that you notify us of your absence as soon as you can so that support can be put in place. If you miss a large chunk of your course, we may transfer you onto a later course so that you are able to attend as many days as possible.
What time do we start and finish each day?
Evening courses start at 6pm and finish at 9pm.
Can I pay for this course with Student Finance?
No - you can only get Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 and Level 4 "Certificate" or "Diploma" courses. Level 2 courses and Level 3 "Award" courses are not available on the scheme. What do I need to bring?
- Wear clothing and footwear suitable for exercise
- Notepad and pen
- Food and drink (microwave and refrigeration facilities are available)
Do we get a lunch break?
Yes, designated lunch breaks are provided. We advise that you bring lunch with you to save you having to leave the venue during your lunch break. Microwave and refrigeration facilities are available.
How do I view all of the course dates that I need to attend?

Do I need a prior qualification to do this course?

Is there anything I need to complete before I start this course?
Yes - this course is part online and part in-person: The first unit of the course (Fundamentals of Menopause) is completed online in your own time. This will need to be completed before joining us for your first "in-person" day - instructions to access this will be emailed to you.
